Review: Whisper by Heather Hildenbrand

Whisper by Heather Hildenbrand
New Adult Paranormal Fantasy

The Cherokee believe when a person dies, their soul is reborn. Life is repeated. An endless cycle of lessons to be learned, love to be found, destiny to be fulfilled. For the past six months, in every flower, every bird, I’ve imagined my parents, relieved of their human forms.

Now, after five months at the Skye View Wellness Center, it was summer. A time for parties and friends, but that’s the last thing I want to do. So when my best friendErin convinces me to attend a bonfire at Eagle Point, I can’t handle the crowd full of sympathetic stares or drunken class clowns who would use my tragedy as a way into my heart – or my pants. The solitude of the woods offers an escape, until I stumble upon a boy, unconscious and bleeding, his pockets stuffed not with identification but with poetry illustrating the beauty of dying. I’ve seen enough death. I will not leave this boy’s side.

Even after he wakes, when the only thing he can remember are visions of events that haven’t happened yet...

My Review:

There is a myth that Whisper's aunt Lydia knows. It is about their first chief's daughter and how she was in love with one while she had to marry another. The man she had to marry wanted power over the tribe and used black magic to further his growing power. When they consummated their marriage, she died and he gained immortality. The man she loved went to their wise woman and asked if he could gain immortality so he could protect her when she is reincarnated and has to face the evil man again and again. But some day something would change the way the end plays out and the curse will be broken at midnight.

I was a little skeptical about this book because the synopsis didn't give much detail on the book, but when I started reading it I totally fell in love with it. After going through the death of her parents, you can see why she didn't want to leave the mysterious boy she found in the woods to die. I really connected with her resilient nature of not giving up on the boy in case he didn't have a family to go to. Once he woke up, he no longer remembered who he was or where.

Not knowing anythingother then there was poem of death by Dylan Thomas, Whisper names him Dylan. He has Brown hair and eyes and according to Whisper, "Sexy. As. Hell." He is a great guy who, through out the book, helps Whisper to understand their instant attraction and calm down her hero complex. Although Whisper is only interested in Dylan, there is another who set their eyes on becoming more for Whisper and his name is Taregan. He is full Cherokee blood and thinks she is perfect for him.  But he has a dark side. One that remains hidden until Dylan remembers who is and what he has to do.

All in all, this was a great book about Cherokee myths and how love has the power to conquer even the most darkest days. It deals with the heavy topic of losing arenas and having to go on myself. This is YA, but defiantly has NA moments. This books earns all 5 stars. It captures your soul and never lets it go. The sexy Dylan isn't bad to read about either! *cue drool and stares!*

Evermore (Arotas Series book 4) by Amy Miles

Evermore (Arotas Series book 4) by Amy Miles

Companion novel to the Arotas Trilogy.

Roseline is waiting...

Links to Evermore:

Follow Roseline in this 3 book box set as she battles against the bonds of a forbidden love in Forbidden, experience her journey to save her soul mate in Reckoning and battle to protect humanity in Redemption.

Forbidden:
Roseline Enescue didn't ask to become an immortal, to have all of the guests at her wedding slaughtered, or be forced into marriage with a man whose lust for blood would one day ignite the vampire legend.

Willing to risk everything for a chance at a normal life, Roseline escapes to America, but her transition into the human world isn't easy. Mortal men flock after her while cutthroat girls plot her demise. Yet she remains relatively unfazed until she meets Gabriel Marston. As their lives entwine, Roseline realizes he is more than he seems. His ability to grind concrete into dust pales in comparison to the glowing cross tattoo that mysteriously appears on his forearms.

Despite the forbidden bond between them, Roseline can't help wondering what Gabriel is. He's not human. He's not immortal. So just what is he?

Reckoning:
Gabriel is gone.

Roseline is left with questions that refuse answers and only the memory of a man she vows to hunt and kill, but to do so, she must call a truce with her sworn enemy.

Together, Roseline and Nicolae track Fane to the underbelly of London, in search of Gabriel’s kidnappers, but when Malachi- an Immortal with mystifying origin- presents himself as their guide, Roseline discovers she is not the only one looking for Gabriel.

Buried within the secret chambers of the infamous Hellfire Club, Roseline discovers a grim truth: Gabriel isn’t just a pawn being used by the Arotas prophecy, and those who seek to control its power. He is Arotas.

Everything Roseline has ever known about her brethren is about to change. Emotions flare, friendships sever and the newly formed bonds between enemies are tested as she delves into realms hardly conceived. They are trapped in the midst of a battle that has been waging since the beginning of time.

The prophecy binds them all together. But will they break before the end?

Redemption:
Roseline Enescue has always been a warrior, the fiercest of her kind, but when she is stripped of her strength and left teetering on the edge of insanity, she is forced to rely on the one person she trusts the least.

As Fane and Nicolae fight to save Sadie’s life, they find themselves pulled into a tremulous truce between hunter and immortal when a string of gruesome murders break out.

The lines have been drawn and the battle preparations have begun, but only Gabriel can save them all…if he can survive the final two tasks.

The first battle may be over, but the war has only just begun. Redemption is coming…

Immortals By Ednah Walters

Immortals By Ednah Walters

Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something...
Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.

So Raine comes up with a plan...
She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again.
But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves

At the end of Runes, we see Raine running to Torin and kissing him,but him not remembering who Raine is. In the second book, Raine has come back from a vacation with her family and is going to school, but seeing Torin again does funny things to her heart. He still doesn't remember her, but she has more important things to deal with then her sexy, valkyrie ex-boyfriend…….no not really. But something is going on with Eirik. And not just anything, but something connected to Torin, her mother, her trainer Lavinia, and the Norse Gods. Eirik is a family member of the Gods and not just any Gods, but Odin's son Baldur. He is a deity but is being raised as a human because the Norns saw something in Eirik's future that scared everyone and Raine is supposed to protect him. But soon he is getting runes….and knowing how they are getting there. It's an ongoing mystery that is going to have to solve before he turns evil. And while all this is going on, Torin is finally remembering his memories of Raine and is determined to help her no matter what.

Bad News: It is the end of Raine and Torin's story and it is kind of a cliffhanger were we don't know what will happen to the both of them in the future, but we want to know anyways.
Good News: It is super amazing and deceives 5 stars. It is absolutely a great ending to Raine and Torni's story.
Great News: There is going o be a third book that deals with Cora and a certain Grimnir. And we might be able to see Raine and Torin again.

Grimnirs expected publication: December 2, 2013

Runes by Ednah Walters

Runes by Ednah Walters

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

When I bought Runes I didn't think I would like it very much. When I read about Torin St. James and it said something about dark sexiness and mysterious, I knew that I would have to buy the book and I am so glad I did. Raine's life has been in turmoil ever since her father disappeared in a plane accident. She believes that her mother is starting to lose it because her mother still believes that her father is still alive. Her best friend/unofficial boyfriend might have to move away and now a mysterious new neighbor has moved into the house next to hers and he's definitely different and….drop dead gorgeous and his name is Torin St. James. She is feeling something for Torin, but knows she has to stay away at least in the beginning. But now she is starting to see things moving tattoos and strange markings. Raine is discovering that she is connected with the new people who have moved to town and especially to Torin, but what will happen when she finally uncovers the secrets Torin wants to share and Raine might not want to know after all? And someone special has come see Raine and her mother. I want a Torin!!! He is drop dead gorgeous, sexy, and definitely mysterious. Something every girl wants in a guy. This definitely remind me a little bit of Cassandra Claire's, The Mortal Instruments, but it is dealing with Norse mythology. The are Valkyries, runes, Gods, and sexy, mysterious neighbors. How could this book not be a total swoon-worthy book?

Want to See Torin?
Here he is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Teaser Tuesday 11/26/13 The Shadowhunter's Codex by Cassandra Claire & Joshua Lewis

The Codex by Cassandra Claire & Joshua Lewis

Delve into the details of all things Shadowhunter with this illustrated guide to the knowledge and lore of the Shadowhunter world.

Since the thirteenth century, the Shadowhunter’s Codex has been the one and only manual for Shadowhunters looking to brush up on their demon languages, learn proper stele use, and discover just what exactly a pyxis is. Featured in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, this guide is a necessity for any young Nephilim on their journey to becoming a Shadowhunter. Beautifully illustrated, the Codex contains images of the famous Shadowhunter homeland of Idris, as well as depictions of demons and other Downworlders.

But this isn’t just any copy of The Shadowhunter’s Codex. It’s Clary’s copy, and as an artist herself, she’s sketched pictures of her friends and family in the book, and scrawled helpful advice in the margins. Of course, she couldn’t exactly stop Jace or Simon from adding their thoughts either. Part encyclopedia, part history, part training manual—complete with commentary from Shadowhunters who have seen it all—this beautiful guide is a perfect supplement to the #1 New York Times bestselling series

Why Do People Become Shadowhunters, by Mangus Bane

Possible Reasons Why:
  1. You possess stout heart, strong will, and able body.
  2. You possess a stout body, able will, and wrong heart.
  3. Local Shadowhunters are ironically punishing you by making you join them.
  4. You were recruited by a Local Institute to join the Nephilim as an ironic punishment for you mistreatment of Downworlders.
  5. Your home, village, or nation is under siege by demons.
  6. Your home, village, or nation is under siege by rouge Downworlders.
  7. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  8. You know too much, and should be recruited because the secrecy of the Shadow World has already been compromised for you.
  9. You know too little; it would be helpful to the Shadowhunters if you knew more.
  10. You know exactly the right amount , making you a natural recruit.
  11. You possess a natural resistance to glamour magic and must be recruited to keep you quiet and provide you with some basic protection.
  12. You have a compound last name already and convinced someone important that yours is a Shadowhunter family and the Shadowhuntersiness has just been weakened by generations of poor breeding.
  13. You had a torrid affair with a member of the Nephilim Council, and now he's trying to cover his tracks.
  14. Shadowhunters are concerned enough, they are no longer haughty and condescending enough—have sought you out to add a much needed boost of haughty condescension.
  15. You ave been bitten by a radioactive Shadowhunter, giving you the proportional strength and speed of a Shadowhunter.
  16. Large bearded man on flying motorcycle appeared to take you away to Shadowhunter school. (Note: Presence of flying motorcycle suggests bearded man may be a vampire.)
  17. Your mom has been in hiding from your evil dad, and you found out you're a Shadowhunter only a few weeks ago.
That's right. Seventeen reasons. Because that's how many I thought of. Now run off, little Shadowhunter, and learn to murder things. And be nice to Downworlders.

Teaser Tuesday 11.5.13 Pure by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Pure (Covenant Book 2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

There is need. And then there is Fate.
Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon--and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude--or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

I shot him a haughty look. Really, they were making this into a bigger deal than—“ What the hell?” Seth kicked the door shut behind him. “What?”
“How come you get this awesome room?” I turned around , amazed by the cathedral ceilings, plush carpets, and a big screen television that took up half the wall. And the bed— it was the size of a boat. My current predicament was temporarily forgotten. “I’ve been sleeping in a closet. This isn’t fair.” He dropped his key on a dresser.
“I’m the Apollyon.”
“So? I am, too, and I got a matchbox for a room. A coffin would’ve been bigger.”
“You’re not an Apollyon yet.”

Ascend (Trylle Trilogy #3)Ascend by Amanda Hocking

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The final book in the Trylle Trilogy. I love this series!! It's about trolls, but not the ugly kind. And they have powers too. Wendy is a mix breed. And she is in love...and is being threatened. Her father is convinced that he is going to rule over Trylle, but not on Wendy's watch. She is going to protect her kingdom or die trying. That is what everyone else is going to try to prevent, especially a certain someone!!! ;) This is the best out of the three!!! It is recommended that you read the first and second books, Switched and Torn. Amanda Hocking has done a great job with this trilogy, and I can't wait to see what more books she has in store.

Waiting on Wednesday 9/18/13

This week's WoW book is........Toxic Heart (Mystic City, #2) by Theo Lawrence.

A city in flames. A trust betrayed. A perfect love destroyed.

Has Aria lost Hunter, her one true love?

Ever since rebellion broke out in Mystic City, pitting the ruling elite against the magic-wielding mystics, Aria has barely seen her boyfriend. Not surprising, since Hunter is the leader of the mystic uprising, and he'll do whatever it takes to win freedom for his people—even if that means using Aria.

But Aria is no one's pawn. She believes she can bring the two warring sides together, save the city, and win back the Hunter she fell in love with.

Before she can play peacemaker, though, Aria will need to find the missing heart of a dead mystic. The heart gives untold powers to whoever possesses it, but finding it means seeking out a fierce enemy whose deepest desire is for Aria to be gone—forever.

Mystic City Synopsis:

For fans of  Matched, The Hunger Games, X-Men, and Blade Runner comes a tale of a magical city divided, a political rebellion ignited, and a love that was meant to last forever. Book One of the Mystic City Novels.

Aria Rose, youngest scion of one of Mystic City's two ruling rival families, finds herself betrothed to Thomas Foster, the son of her parents' sworn enemies. The union of the two will end the generations-long political feud—and unite all those living in the Aeries, the privileged upper reaches of the city, against the banished mystics who dwell below in the Depths. But Aria doesn't remember falling in love with Thomas; in fact, she wakes one day with huge gaps in her memory. And she can't conceive why her parents would have agreed to unite with the Fosters in the first place. Only when Aria meets Hunter, a gorgeous rebel mystic from the Depths, does she start to have glimmers of recollection—and to understand that he holds the key to unlocking her past. The choices she makes can save or doom the city—including herself.

Consume (The Clann #3)

Tristan Coleman has survived the change from Clann magic user to vampire, much to Savannah Colbert's joy—and despair. By changing the Clann's golden boy and newly elected leader, even to save him from death, she has unleashed a fury of hatred and fear that they cannot escape.

As the Clann and the vampire council go to war, Tristan and Sav face a new threat—a fracturing of the all-consuming bond they share. To fight for peace, they must forge a new trust and risk everything to take down their deadliest enemy, even as they must run for their lives. Soon they will learn that some bonds are stronger than love—and some battles cannot be won without sacrifice.

Consume (The Clann, #3)Consume by Melissa Darnell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great end to the trilogy. A different ending then I expected, but a great ending none the less. Samantha loves Tristan and would do anything for him, but changing him was something she didn't want to do. Yet she had to for Tristan to live. Now that he is half vampire, their relationship comes with a whole lot more problems.

The whole book was was way different then I expected, but isn't that how it always works. Tristan learns the problems that Sam had to deal with and Sam had to deal with a new Tristan. Problems arise, they are on the brink of war, and people die. After the first book, most of the second book besides the ending was pretty close to what I had imagined happening, but Consume was way different. If you haven't read the first two books, Crave and Covet, then you should read those first. If you like vampires, magic, paranormal romance, fantasy, and YA, you will love this series
